
Edward R. Ponatoski, MHA, FACHE
Senior Partner, Strategic Planning


Ed Ponatoski is a Senior Partner with the health consulting firm of Martin-Blanck & Associates and focuses on creating environments that allow organizations to imagine and evoke their preferred futures. He is a leading developer of methods for identifying trends and emerging developments, employing scenarios in strategic planning, and creating organizational visions to clarify aspirations and align strategic intent. He has over 30 years of successful management and leadership experience in strategic planning, health facility planning, and analysis and modeling of complex health systems.
Mr. Ponatoski’s current activities encompass services to major Department of Defense health facility planning organizations as well as private sector hospitals and large medical group ambulatory care practices. He is currently engaged in supporting the Military Health System in the development of an enterprise capital investment decision methodology, facilitating the creation of healing environments through employment of Evidenced Based Design principles, and the development of MHS wide strategic goals and measures.
A former Principal of SRA International, he designed and executed a four-year study that is helped define military health for the 21st century. This study encompassed the exploration of new organizational forms as well as images of new health facility infrastructures and technologies to support a very different future enterprise. He managed all of SRA’s health facility planning projects supporting strategic business and master planning studies. Prior to joining SRA, Mr. Ponatoski held key positions in both the Department of Defense (DoD) and the US Army. In his capacity as Director of Strategic Planning for the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, he acted as an internal consultant for Military Health System Strategic Planning.
Mr. Ponatoski holds a Masters Degree in Health Services Administration. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a Fellow of the Health Facility Institute, and member of American Society of Healthcare Engineering. He is also the current President of the Annapolis Light House Shelter, a Homeless Prevention and support Center. He is married to the former Angela R. Peterman of Cambridge, Maryland and has four children. They reside in Annapolis, Maryland.
