Louis H. Oberndorf, MBA

  • Medical simulation technology, simulation-based curriculum and learning tools for future doctors, nurses, first responders, and military medics
  • Executive management within the defense industry, including business planning, engineering development and market strategy

Summary of Career Accomplishments:
Louis Oberndorf became a Senior Partner with Martin, Blanck & Associates in 2011. He is the Founder and former Chairman of Medical Education Technologies, Inc. (METI), which develops learning tools to educate healthcare professionals, ultimately improving patient safety and saving lives.  Under Oberndorf’s leadership, METI grew from a technology startup with five employees in 1996 to the world’s leading healthcare education and simulation technology company, with more than 200 employees today. METI’s technology and educational tools are used in thousands of leading healthcare organizations worldwide, including the Cleveland Clinic, Emory University, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Cambridge University Hospitals, and others.

Mr. Oberndorf formerly was Vice President of Marketing and Senior Vice President of Business Development with Loral Corporation, one of the 10 leading defense companies in the US. He was responsible for strategic coordination, start-up initiatives and transferring Loral’s defense and aerospace technology to the commercial sector. He also served in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1976, achieving the rank of Captain.    

Additional Qualifications:
Mr. Oberndorf has headed critical initiatives in developing new simulation-based curriculum for leading healthcare organizations around the world. Examples include credentialing faculty in simulation-based education and implementing accredited, competency-based CME programs with the American College of Chest Physicians; developing a simulation-based educational module to teach laparoscopic nephrectomies, including didactic content and simulator-based exercises validated by the American Urological Association; supporting education and research for the use and advancement of simulation in surgical education with the American College of Surgeons; establishing the world’s first physician certification examination in Disaster Medicine with the American Board of Physician Specialties; and supporting research, education, public awareness and new initiatives in air medicine with the Association of Air Medical Services.

Mr. Oberndorf received Bachelor of Arts from the University of Portland and a Master in Business Administration from the University of Utah.  He also completed the Senior Management Executive Program at the University of Michigan.
