Summary of Career Accomplishments:
Enrique Mendez is a Senior Partner with Martin, Blanck & Associates. Dr. Mendez served in the US Army Medical Corps for 28 years, retiring in 1983 with the rank of Major General. He entered military service in 1955 as general medical officer. After a distinguished military career, he returned to his native Puerto Rico, first as Dean and then as Dean and President of the Ponce School of Medicine. Subsequently, Dr. Mendez served as Medical Director of the Damas Hospital in Ponce before becoming Secretary of Health, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. President Bush nominated Dr. Mendez to be the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Health Affairs), and he served from March 1990 to January 1993. Following government service, he was a special consultant to Booz | Allen | Hamilton.

Significant assignments during his military career included: Division Surgeon, 3rd Armored Division, Frankfurt, West Germany; Commanding Officer, 45th Field Hospital and Command Surgeon, Southern European Task Force, Vicenza, Italy; Director of Health Care Operations, Office of the Army Surgeon General, Washington, DC; Deputy Surgeon General of the Army, Washington, DC; and then as Commanding General, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, DC.

Additional Qualifications:
During his career, Dr. Mendez has received numerous awards and honors. He is a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico and Loyola University School of Medicine. He completed his internship at Mercy Hospital in Chicago in and his residency in internal medicine at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
