Summary of Career Accomplishments:
Artie Shelton is a Senior Partner with Martin, Blanck & Associates. He served 14 years as a consultant to the Department of Veterans Affairs, including serving as Director, Organ Transplant Program with an annual budget of $24 million, and as the Vice President of Medical Affairs Health Management, Inc. in Washington, DC. He was a Secretarial appointee on the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Advisory Committee on the Readjustment of Veterans. Dr. Shelton was nominated in 2010 and accepted as a member of the Department of Defense (DoD) Congressionally Directed Medical Research Consumer Working Group. In 2011, Dr. Shelton was appointed by Governor O'Malley to serve for a three-year term on the State Council on Cancer Control. 

Dr. Shelton served for 21 years in the US Army, retiring with the rank of Colonel. His military career has been distinguished by appointments as the foreign travel medical escort physician to the leadership of the US Congress and personal physician to the Army's Chief of Staff. He served as Commander, Pentagon Army Health Clinic; Chief, Department of Primary Care and Community Medicine; Chief, Department of Medicine, USA Medical Department Activity and Chief, Professional Service in Bremerhaven, West Germany; Assistant Chief, Department of Medicine and Chief Allergy/Clinical Immunology at Martin Army Hospital at Fort Benning, GA; Assistant Chief Allergy/Clinical Immunology at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, TX; Physician Consultant to the Defense Medical System Support Center (Composite Health Care System). In addition, he served as Professional Officer Filler Information Systems Commander 42nd Field Hospital, Fort Knox, KY. In 1993, he deployed to Mogadishu, Somalia where he served as the 42nd Medical Task Force Commander.  

Additional Qualifications:
Dr. Shelton received a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Science and a Doctor of Medicine from Howard University in Washington, DC. He received the Upjohn Research and Scholarship Award from Howard University College of Medicine. Dr. Shelton completed his internship and residency training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He completed a fellowship in adult/pediatric allergy and immunology at the National Institutes of Health, Children's Hospital in Washington, D.C. and Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He has held teaching positions with the City College of Chicago; Bremerhaven, West Germany; Walter Reed Army Medical Center; the University of Oklahoma; and Texas Tech University Science Center in El Paso, TX.
